Training Session and More Speed

Improvisational transportation for two bikes...
Thursday I decided to ditch town for the day and get away to train. I wish I could claim the idea as my own, but my good buddy and training partner suggested that we leave Austin for Wemberly. I immediately rode home loaded the car and grabbed Jody to head out for the day. The plan was a bike/run then enjoy the rest of the day in the small town.

Upon our arrival to his families country home we immediately where greeted from one of the local residents. Exiting the car I spot a young doe standing at the end of his driveway. I began to unwrap my PB&J that I had been saving to consume just before the ride. As I start chewing my first bite the deer and I make eye contact, and then the unexpected. A large ribbon of drool streams out of the deers mouth, it knew that I was eating PB&J. Not one to be stingy, I plucked a piece lobbed it half way between me and the salivating deer which was quickly sought out to began consumption, I made a friend. As Jody prepped his gear I was sharing my lunch with my new friend.

PB&J, Banana, and Kibble
Arriving around noon we knew that the ride run was going to be hot. I said good bye to my new friend and we set out for the training ride around the town of Wimberly to get warmed up. Quickly navigating through the small west Texas town we made our way to the country to tackle our first climb on the ride. A large and very lengthy two tear climb gets the legs and heart going to start the hurt session early in the ride. The plan after the climb was to ride intervals at race pace with very short recovery. With the wind in our faces and the rolling hills slowing us down we made the out and back ride finished the ride and returned to town to sneak in a quick thirty minute run to further the suffering in the heat.  No Worries

Weaponry for the Time Bandit

A loner set of Zipp 808's from my buddy and T3 coach Jeff Raines. It looks faster, I hope that I am able to go faster too.

The closer I get to the Captex Tri the more excited I am about racing again. I will keep you updated with the results from the Open/Elite field.
