1 Month Down, Top Five Stories... Not Chronological

With one month of  riding during the weekends under my belt the 8 hour nights kept me busy pedaling around town. I typically work Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights out by dinner time and return back to the shop by 3am. After talking with fellow riders and some of my friends I have compiled my first month of work and clif-noted it down to my 5 favorite.

5. This was my first night of riding for the company after a majority of the night dedicated to training with a senior rider learning the rules and practices in order to operate without breaking the law or being considered a snake to other riders. This ride came directly from being released on my own for the remainder of the night. Two Girls flag me down and want to head from "Dirty" 6th to Molatov on West 6th. (I preface this ride by saying it was very late in the night and the girls involved appeared to have been enjoying it, A LOT.) As the ride began they start asking me what my rate for the ride would be, when I answer "Just Tips" one girl responds with, "Do you just accept money?"  As the  ride down the street continues this conversation turns into the one of the girls flat out asking me if I could hook up with her that night... Being a very sarcastic person I assume the conversation is in good humor and start joking around about the value of what comes down to it would be me selling myself for a fee (Not prostitution, I'm being hypothetical) so eventually I arrive at the bar and pull to the side to drop them off. When suddenly the awkward pause of them not leaving my cab hits me... She was serious! I am now sitting in front of the bar convincing the girl that she is better off taking her chancing for the night at the bar and not with me, after a minute or two I have persuaded her to exit the cab and she leaves me a gracious tip and ask for my number, and had to decline.

4. This is a bittersweet story but I tell it because it was my first encounter of the type. Last call has hit police are clearing the streets and I'm sitting waiting at Brazos for my last ride of the night. When 6 large black guys ask for a ride, quite intoxicated we get them sorted between 2 cabs, 3x3. Very rowdy they ask for a ride back to their car. This ride becomes quite obnoxious with the guys standing up to scream and shout at everyone they see. As the yelling continues one of the guys shouts out Texas State Football is getting fucked up. So at least I know where they go to school and play football. As we round the last turn to the parking lot they ask for, I suddenly notice my cab has one less person in it, as I look back over my right shoulder to check what the hell just happened, I see the other two passengers dart... Yes, they dashed on me! Texas State Football sucks

3.  This one happened just prior to my run in with TS football two couples want a ride at the end of their night back to the car. They hop in, the guys sit on the bench the girls take a spot on the laps so we can ride four deep. I turn to ask where they left their car I am immediately confronted by one of the girls with "You're cute" I thank her for the compliment and ask where the car is. I get some drunken babel that I have to decipher into direction of this apparent location. So as i figure out where to go I start the ride, when I can't help but notice a very firm slap to the ass and "Let's Ride" shouted. I know have turned from a pedi-caber to a race horse. 7 Blocks with a girlfriend sitting on her boyfriends lap slapping my ass... I'm going to get beat up. During the ride she is shouting feel that ass he is fit, look at those calf muscles... baby you need legs like that! I can help but think this ride might get ugly, I ride faster so that this can end much quicker and hopefully painlessly. After the leg comment from the girl the boyfriend responds, baby you know I don't work out legs. I finally get to the parking garage, Alright everyone out hope you enjoyed the ride. To my surprise they (the girls) wanted photos with me in the cab and the boyfriends with happy to take the photos, after this impromptu shoot they started pooling the money together for the tip... and it was good.

2. Friday The 13th.... it was a night for the records, ride after ride after ride. Superstition smuperstion, I'm having to good of a night and making a lot of money, almost. 11:30pm ride from W 6th to a garage, let go... what the hell? My chain is jammed not going anywhere, sorry buddy off the cab. 40 minutes later many passed up rides later some very, very regrettable. Right 12pm, got my bike back in order and ready to go. back to "Dirty" 6th. Damn chain broke.. what the hell. This is when it gets good. As my cab is lifted in the air so that it can be repaired two guys come up, "hey man can we get a ride?" Awkward look and pause, No I'm trying to fix my cab. "So you can't give us a ride?" NO! "Well what should we do?" find another ride...

1. Dirty 6th and Red River. Some guy waves me down and ask for a ride to the Hyatt across the river, roughly 7 blocks. Then he ask if the cab can  fit three, of course it can. So the other two guys in his group walk up from the corner... (I hope you guy are good friends this is going to be a tight squeeze.) After two get in comfortably they realize that one more is not in the cab. So the third guy decides to hop on the lap of his buddy while his ass is hanging halfway off the cab, super safe. Once we get going I ask them what they are doing in town, they were programmers for World-of-World craft and decided to travel for the weekend. I didn't know they where allowed outside, and that bars served mountain dew (Code Red)... So during the long ride back to the hotel they realize how good of friends they are when you load three 220lb guys riding in a cab sitting on each others laps could be. So as we come to the first major hill downtown, they call me out thinking that I am going to need some help.(200lb cab, 660lb passenger, and me 170lbs) Suck one computer guys I got this! so drop them of at the hotel for a very lucrative tip $100 and much impressed passengers.
